Key points
- Gross capital issuance by UK residents was £74.8 billion in September, compared to £62.0 billion in August and the previous six-month average of £68.4 billion (Chart 1).
- Gross repayments by UK residents across all securities in September was £75.0 billion, the highest since records began. This compares to £57.2 billion in August and the previous six-month average of £62.3 billion.
- Net issuance by UK residents was -£0.2 billion in September, compared to £4.8 billion in August and the previous six-month average of £6.1 billion (Chart 1).

- Gross capital issuance by UK residents was £74.8 billion in September, compared to £62.0 billion in August and the previous six-month average of £68.4 billion (Chart 1).
- Net issuance by UK residents was -£0.2 billion in September, compared to £4.8 billion in August and the previous six-month average of £6.1 billion (Chart 1).
- Year to date gross issuance was £596.6 billion, £96.1 billion higher than at the same point the previous year (Chart 2) and £188.8 billion higher than the previous four-year average.
- Year to date net issuance was £42.1 billion, £6.1 billion higher than at the same point the previous year (Chart 3) and £19.8 billion higher than the previous four-year average.

Bond issuance
- Gross bond issuance was £33.7 billion in September, compared to £25.9 billion in August and the previous six-month average of £30.7 billion (Chart 4).
- Net bond issuance was £4.5 billion in September, compared to £8.0 billion in August and the previous six-month average of £7.9 billion (Chart 4).
- The decrease in net issuance was driven by an increase in repayments of £5.7 billion and £2.8 billion by the OFC and MFI sectors respectively.

Commercial paper issuance
- Gross commercial paper issuance was £40.9 billion in September, compared to £36.0 billion in August and the previous six-month average of £36.1 billion (Chart 5).
- Net commercial paper issuance was -£0.3 billion in September, compared to £1.4 billion in August and the previous six-month average of £0.4 billion (Chart 5).
- The decrease in net issuance was driven by an increase in repayments of £3.7 billion by the OFC sector, partially offset by an increase in issuance of £2.8 billion by the same sector.

Equity issuance
- Gross equity issuance was £0.2 billion in September, compared to £0.1 billion in August and the previous six-month average of £1.6 billion (Chart 6).
- Net equity issuance was -£4.3 billion in September, compared to -£4.6 billion in August and the previous six-month average of -£2.2 billion (Chart 6).
- The increase in net issuance was driven by a decrease in buybacks of £0.5 billion by the PNFC sector.
