Capital Issuance - June 2025

The capital issuance statistics consist of non-government primary market issuance of bonds, commercial paper and equity, representing finance raised by UK resident entities.

Key points

  • Gross capital issuance by UK residents was £62.3 billion in June, compared to £67.5 billion in May and the previous six-month average of £61.1 billion (Chart 1).
  • Net capital issuance was £2.8 billion in June, compared to £7.3 billion in May and the previous six-month average of £4.4 billion (Chart 1).
  • The decrease in net capital issuance was driven by a £10.8 billion fall in net bond issuance, from £16.1 billion in May to £5.2 billion in June.

All sectors

  • Gross capital issuance by UK residents was £62.3bn in June, compared to £67.5bn in May and the previous six-month average of £61.1bn (Chart 1).
  • Net issuance was £2.8bn in June, compared to £7.3bn in May and the previous six-month average of £4.4bn (Chart 1).
  • Year to date gross issuance was £394.9bn, £4.4bn higher than at the same point the previous year (Chart 2).This is £94.6bn higher than the previous four-year average.
  • Year to date net issuance was £32.0bn, £7.7bn lower than at the same point the previous year (Chart 3).This is £18.8bn higher than the previous four-year average.

Bond issuance

  • Gross bond issuance was £31.8bn in June, compared to £37.7bn in May and the previous six-month average of £29.9bn (Chart 4).
  • Net bond issuance was £5.3bn in June, compared to £16.1bn in May and the previous six-month average of £7.7bn (Chart 4).
  • The decrease in net issuance was driven by a fall in issuance by MFI and OFC sectors of £4.7 billion and £3.9 billion respectively, as well as a £3.8 billion and £3.5 billion rise in repayments by the PNFC and OFC sectors respectively.

Commercial paper issuance

  • Gross commercial paper issuance was £30.0bn in June, compared to £29.7bn in May and the previous six-month average of £30.8bn (Chart 5).
  • Net commercial paper issuance was £1.4bn in June, compared to -£4.5bn in May and the previous six-month average of £0.4bn (Chart 5).
  • The increase in net issuance was driven by a £6.3 billion decrease in repayments by the MFI sector.

Equity issuance

  • Gross equity issuance was £0.6bn in June, compared to £0.1bn in May and the previous six-month average of £0.4bn (Chart 6).
  • Net equity issuance was -£3.9bn in June, compared to -£4.2bn in May and the previous six-month average of -£3.7bn (Chart 6).
  • The increase in net issuance was driven by an increase in gross issuance of £0.5 billion by the PNFC sector.
