A total of £181,879.63 was raised, breaking our record for staff fundraising in a year. The Brain Tumour Charity will receive £88,271.59 and London’s Air Ambulance Charity will receive £93,608.04. These amounts each include the matched funding from the Bank on the first £25,000 raised by staff for each charity.
Throughout the year, colleagues have been committed to raising funds and supporting these worthy campaigns. That has included shaking buckets for both charities and taking part in the London Marathon; the Royal Parks Half Marathon; RideLondon; and the Tour de Yorkshire team cycling challenge. Proceeds from raffles and quiz nights have added to the totals as well as colleagues donating through the Pennies from Heaven scheme.
Two stand out campaigns that colleagues supported were the Big Bandana Bake for The Brain Tumour Charity in March 2018, and London’s Air Ambulance helipad abseil challenge set by the charity during National Air Ambulance Week in September.
The amounts raised will help both charities take significant steps forward. For The Brain Tumour Charity , the donation could fund:
- Over a year of research for one of the charity’s leading brain tumour scientific researchers working to find new and safer treatments; or
- 17,654 information packs used by the charity’s supporter services to help adults living with a brain tumour understand their rights and access the support they’re entitled to.
- Fund the charity’s Patient Liaison Nurse for a year. The nurse not only helps patients but also feeds into national work to understand patient recovery and care; and
- Cover the cost of more than 10 life-saving missions.
Commenting on the successful charity partnership, our Executive Director for People & Culture, Lea Paterson, said: “This year The Brain Tumour Charity and London’s Air Ambulance have been very strongly supported by colleagues across the Bank and I am delighted that the funds raised and the matching contribution made by the Bank will have such a big impact on both charities. Everyone who has donated or raised funds for the charities can feel very proud of their contribution, and that collectively their support has made this the most successful year ever for colleague fundraising for our charities of the year.”
