Innovation competition

After the success of the Innovation Competition 2024, we are delighted to be relaunching this year for students aged 16 and over

Competition

Due to the success of last year’s competition, we are offering another group of UK students the opportunity to win a paid internship with us. We are looking for creative people who are passionate about data and technology to join us in summer.

To enter, create a five-minute video answering the following question:

The Prudential Regulation Authority’s (PRA) primary aim is to promote the safety and soundness of the firms it regulates. How do you think the PRA could leverage Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) technologies to deliver more efficient supervision?

Tips

To help you get started, try to consider:

  • What role does a PRA supervisor play in helping promote the safety and soundness of regulated firms?
  • What GenAI solutions could the PRA utilise?
  • What are the potential benefits and challenges of using GenAI to deliver more efficient supervision?
  • What aspects of GenAI excite you and why?

Diversity in STEM

Our competition is open to all UK students aged 16 and over. This includes those who are in school, college or university (undergraduate and postgraduate). We are committed to increasing diversity in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), and we encourage female-identifying students and students from underrepresented backgrounds to apply.

Prize

The winners will be awarded a paid internship with the data and innovation team at the Bank in summer 2025.

This internship can be completed in one of our offices (London or Leeds) or virtually.

2024 competition

Last year we asked UK students to create either a short video or a presentation that answers this question: How can the Bank of England make best use of data and technology to achieve its aims?

Hear from some of our 2024 winners:

  • “As a person looking for a future career in data and technology, the internship has definitely helped me understand the key models and data tools that are used in the Bank and across the financial sector.”
  • “The internship allowed me to meet a lot of great people who are experts in the field, and it is a precious opportunity to network with them and learn about their stories, so that I can have more objective future career goals. “
One of our Innovation Competition winners from 2023 even went on to join the Bank’s graduates’ scheme and now works in the PRA. This is what he had to say about the competition:
  • “The Innovation Competition sparked my curiosity and became a springboard for my growth, it is an opportunity that continues to shape my success today. The Bank is known for pushing boundaries and undertaking inspiring work. For anyone aspiring to join a prestigious organisation to understand what happens behind the headlines, give the competition a go!”
