Museum late: 250 years of Turner

Visit the Museum outside of our usual opening hours to discover some of JMW Turner’s connections to the Bank.

Joseph Mallord William Turner was born 250 years ago on 23 April 1775. To mark the occasion, this month’s Museum Late will explore the famous artist’s links to the Bank of England; from his investments in Bank Stock, to his artwork appearing on our current £20 note. Join us between 5pm and 8pm (last entry at 7.30pm) to find out more.

Talk: Designing the £20 note featuring JMW Turner

When: 17 April at 6pm

Join a gallery talk at 6pm with the banknote designer who led on the creation of the £20 Turner banknote. Find out how references to Turner’s life and work were incorporated into the overall design, from his self-portrait to some more subtle details. It’s free to join the talk and there’s no need to book in advance. There will be time to ask questions, too!

Chat with our colleagues from the Bank of England’s Archive. During the event, they will showcase an array of archival documents relating to Turner and his investments at the Bank of England. The activity is drop-in and there’s no need to book in advance.
