Overview

The Bank of England museum collection contains tens of thousands of items and spans over 1,500 years of history. It includes archaeology, banknotes, coins, artworks, sculpture, decorative art and social history. We’ve created loan boxes which contain some of these items for you to explore with students in the classroom.

What’s included?

The Notable Victorians and STEM Pioneers Loan Box explores the people and designs that appear on banknotes. Each box contains real banknotes alongside educational resources for teachers that explore the lives and achievements of the people that appear on them.

The Slavery & the Bank Loan Box contains five items that have links to either the transatlantic slave trade, the Bank of England, or both. The box contains notes for teachers that explain the history of each item alongside suggested classroom activities. 

What curriculum stage/subject do the loan boxes support?

They are suitable for students studying Key Stage 2 or Key Stage 3 / Second or Third Level and can support a number of curriculum subjects including history, English and science. 

How long can I borrow a box for?

Each box can be borrowed for up to 4 weeks.

How are the boxes delivered and collected?

The loan boxes will be delivered on the first Monday of your selected month by our couriers and be collected on the last Monday of your selected month. Please disregard the timeslots on the bookings page. Our couriers can deliver and collected any time between 8am-6pm.
