Since 1970, Bank of England banknotes have featured real life people from our past. Banknotes are a way to celebrate the achievements of people who shaped the world. What is it that made these people so important? Request a loan box for your classroom and dive in!
What’s included?
Each box contains real banknotes which are no longer in circulation. The notes feature famous Victorians such as Florence Nightingale, Elizabeth Fry and Charles Dickens.
The new, free initiative explores the people and designs that appear on the notes with the help of educational resources for teachers and activities for students to complete in class.
What curriculum stage/subject do the loan boxes support?
They are suitable for students studying Key Stage 2/Second Level and can support a number of curriculum subjects including history, English and science.
How long can I borrow a box for?
Each box can be borrowed for up to 4 weeks.
How do the boxes get delivered and collected?
We will organise a courier to deliver and collect the boxes (which could take place anytime between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday). If you borrow a loan box, it is important that a teacher is available between these times to receive and return the loan box on the confirmed dates.

If you are interested in borrowing a box for your school, please complete our request form.
Requests will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Whilst there are a small number of boxes available at present, we plan to expand the initiative in future.
